Fashion trends keep changing, and so do the fabrics used to make them. The fabric trends of the year 2013 have showcased many surprises as well as many favorite and classic fabrics. Silks and chiffons have always been favorites of designers and could once again be seen strutting on ramp ways.

Silk

Surprisingly silk is back in fashion and silk shorts are currently a fashion staple celebrated by many style-conscious and trend-savvy fashioners. Silk shorts are now flooding the market in all unusual and delicate prints. Printed silk shorts and skirts are as stylish as they are comfortable.

Cotton

Cotton fabrics are everywhere! They never seem to go out of style. Globally cotton is the best selling fabric which is reflected in their presence on every runaway. Casual, dressy, easy - cotton is the fabric of our lives.

Chiffon

Chiffons can be constructed from cotton, silk as well as synthetic fibers, but are usually associated with silk or nylon. Chiffon unless made from polyester can be dyed to almost any shade desired. Chiffon has been fashionably integrated in evening wear giving an elegant appearance to the one piece. From lingerie to accessories like scarves, chiffon makes its presence felt in most garment categories.

Organza Fabrics

Organza fabrics are basically thin sheer fabrics which are made out of many filaments of silk and synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester. Designers prefer to use those organzas that are woven in pure silk! From floating dresses to accessories like scarves and bags are organza is everywhere to be seen!

Rayon Challis

Fashion trends do change but it's no surprise that rayon's are high on the list of fashionable fabrics. Rayon's flit in and out of fashion as has been evident in the New York, Paris, and London fashion weeks.

Menswear Fabrics

This year the new entrant to women's fashionable wear has been menswear fabrics! This season menswear has slowly transformed over into women's clothing! This unique blend of the masculine fabric paired with the sleek feminine silhouette looks really fabulous. This trend has really being encouraged as a great way for working women to play the boss while still showing off their feminine side.

Velvet Fabrics


Velvet fabrics are slowly becoming regulars in fashion weeks across the globe. Velvet fabrics are a win-win from both from the designer's choice and models alike as it is one of the smoothest and softest fabrics in comparison to others.


Linen


Linen shirts are just perfect for spring as well summer. Normally just worn in a lot of the Mediterranean locations, but are slowly gaining popularity where men from London to New York to the streets of Rome are wearing it.


Flannels


Flannels are warm fabrics of various degrees of weights and drapes. Flannel fabrics were originally made from carded wool or worsted yarn. Over time they can now be made from cotton, wool, or synthetic fibers. Flannel fabrics have been in and out of the fashion scene, however currently they are in vogue!


Spandex or Lycra Fabric


Spandex fabrics are popularly used in fashion as because of its great shape retention quality. Spandex can "bounce" back to its original construction even after being stretched more than six hundred times. Designers have experimented a lot with garment categories like lingerie, inner wear and support hose making them from spandex fabrics.


Satin


Satin fabrics have been real show stoppers in the Summer collections of 2013 most notably being that of Mark Jacobs. This luxurious but tricky fabric has found place in many designer collections. Satin, if not carried off well can come of looking like sleepwear, but this season we have seen designers showcasing beautiful satin blouses that are great office wear!


Georgette Fabrics


Sheers have dominated the last few years of fashion. Georgette fabrics are lightweight sheer that is strong and also provides utmost comfort. Its exquisiteness and uniqueness makes it a fabric in demand in the fashion industry. It falls beautifully making it ideal for cocktail dresses and evening gowns.


Denim Fabrics


Denim fabrics are a classic that are used at large scales globally. Its unique texture makes it one of the most evergreen fabrics of all time. Designers are now moving towards creating new innovative designs of the classic denim fabric to keep reinventing this ever versatile fabric.

 

Taffeta Fabric


Taffeta fabrics are soft and smooth woven fabrics which manufactured out of fibers like rayon, silk and nylon. Taffeta fabrics have unique rippled or wavy patterns with dull and shimmering areas that reflect light differently making it ideal for fashionable garments. 2013 has seen many fashionable taffeta fabrics in use in a variety of women's garments like blouses, skirts and one-pieces.


2013 has been a fashionable year, with exciting new experiments in fabric constructions. Designers have showcased many new concepts in the last few fashion weeks that their winter collections too are eagerly awaited!
