In the modern application of zipper painting, spray painting is used for the body works along with small details. Below are some of the commonly used spray painting techniques along with their applications in the zipper manufacturing industry.

Methods and technologies of Spray Painting

There are basically three types of spray painting methods and technologies commonly applied in the entire zipper manufacturing industry, although many other alternative methods are available.

1. Barrel Spraying

Named as hot-barrel painting sometimes, barrel spraying was initially invented when the zipper manufacturing industry was seeking for an efficient painting method. Today also it is one of the most preferable techniques due to its effectiveness and practicality.

The complete process of spraying is done by placing the zipper parts in the rotating machine. These parts can be pre-heated before using them as per their substrate type and coating. But the temperature for pre-heating the parts would depend on their material. After this, the paint is then sprayed on the rolling parts with the spray guns. Thus, the complete process of painting and drying is done simultaneously on continuous basis. This indeed provides an even spray for the zipper parts. This method is preferred the most not only due to its simplicity but also for its benefit of getting rid of repeated spraying and drying processes.

2. Rack Spraying

This is one of the common methods used for spraying. As the name indicates, it is processed by placing the zipper parts on the rack system. These parts are then evenly sprayed and dried on the rack. The coating and drying procedures could be carried out a couple of times, dependent upon the requirements of the desired colour and shading of the zipper.

This method is widely used where certain colour shading is required as it cannot be achieved through other alternative methods, even though this is a very complicated method.

3. Cold Spraying

This method uses newer technology where the paint can be cooled during the process. Thereby, eradicating the complete drying process. A low-pressure air is used here to evenly spray the paint and the spray will get dried quickly due to the temperature.

In spite of being highly advanced, the investment done for this technology is very expensive and some of the shadings and colours available to other methods can't be obtained here.

Selection of the Spray Painting Technique

Although all the three methods are used for different purposes depending upon the requirement of various shading, colours, and the special effects. Sometimes, various parts of the zipper are each spray painted with different methods to attain its final appearance. However this will certainly increase the complexity of the process.

SBS ZIPPER applies all the three technologies for spray painting and at times combines the technologies with each other to attain uniqueness of each product. If you are uncertain or not aware regarding the selection of the technologies, our experts team is willing to advice about the method choices and their applications.
