NoName is an India-based white-label and OEM garment manufacturing and export company, focused on organic, sustainable materials, started by a team with over 20 years of experience in manufacturing garments for fashion brands worldwide. The company helps fashion brands to manufacture/source clothes or fabrics of their choice, efficiently and quickly. In an interview with Fibre2Fashion, Founder and MD Kalpana Agrawal discusses more about the company and its commitment to sustainability.

How do you think technological advancements are shaping the future of sustainable garment manufacturing in India?

Technological advancements play a pivotal role in shaping the future of sustainable garment manufacturing in India. Innovations in machinery and processes enable us to reduce waste, conserve resources, and enhance efficiency. For example, we utilise advanced dyeing techniques that require less water and energy, contributing to a more sustainable production process.
 

In your view, what are the key challenges and opportunities facing the garment manufacturing industry in its journey towards greater sustainability and ethical practices?

The garment manufacturing industry faces both challenges and opportunities on its sustainability journey. Key challenges include the high initial investment required for sustainable practices and the need to educate consumers about the value of sustainable products. However, these challenges present opportunities for innovation and collaboration. By investing in sustainable practices, companies can differentiate themselves in the market and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

What inspired the founding of The NoName Company, and how does it differentiate itself in the garment manufacturing industry?

The founding of The NoName Company was inspired by a desire to make a tangible shift in the garment manufacturing industry with a focus on sustainability and ethical practices. What sets us apart is our commitment to transparency, quality, and customer satisfaction. We differentiate ourselves by offering a wide range of organic and sustainable textiles, coupled with personalised service and competitive pricing.

Can you elaborate on the sustainability practices your company employs in its manufacturing process?

Our sustainability practices encompass every aspect of our manufacturing process. We source organic and sustainable materials, use eco-friendly dyeing and printing methods, and prioritise waste reduction and recycling. Additionally, we engage in fair labour practices, ensuring the well-being of our workers and promoting a positive impact on the environment and society.

What challenges did you face in setting up a business focused on organic and sustainable textiles?

Setting up a business focused on organic and sustainable textiles posed several challenges, including sourcing reliable suppliers, educating consumers about the benefits of sustainable fashion, and overcoming the misconception that sustainable products are expensive. However, these challenges also presented opportunities to innovate and differentiate ourselves in the market.

We maintain quality and consistency across our diverse range of organic and sustainable products through rigorous quality control measures and regular audits of our manufacturing processes. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that each product meets our high standards of sustainability and quality.

How do you manage to keep your products competitively priced while adhering to sustainable and ethical practices?

We achieve this by optimising our supply chain, investing in efficient production methods, and sourcing materials responsibly. By streamlining our processes, we can offer high-quality, sustainable products at competitive prices.

We provide training and employment opportunities to local artisans and workers, empowering them with valuable skills and contributing to the economic development of the region.

We cater to the specific needs of small and midsize fashion brands by offering flexible manufacturing options, low minimum order quantities, and personalised service. Our team works closely with each client to understand their unique requirements and deliver tailored solutions that meet their needs.

We incorporate unique Indian fabrics and artisanal techniques into our products to showcase the rich cultural heritage of India. Fabrics such as khadi, handloom cotton, and organic silk are sourced from local artisans, preserving traditional craftsmanship and supporting local communities.

We aim to expand our reach, increase our product offerings, and continue innovating in the field of sustainable garment manufacturing. Our goal is to be a driving force in the global sustainability movement, inspiring change and making a positive impact on the planet.

What advice would you give to upcoming entrepreneurs who want to enter the sustainable fashion industry?

For upcoming entrepreneurs entering the sustainable fashion industry, my advice would be to stay true to your values, prioritise sustainability in every aspect of your business, and be open to collaboration and learning. Building a sustainable fashion brand requires dedication, innovation, and a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the planet and society.
