Growth in production of sewn textile articles

According to Statistics Estonia, the industrial production in January 2008 increased compared to December as well as compared to January of the previous year.

In January 2008, the seasonally adjusted industrial production of Estonia rose 4% compared to December. In comparison with January of the previous year, the industrial production increased 4%, in manufacturing 2%.

There was a small growth in manufacturing in January. The growth was mainly influenced by the increase in the production of chemicals and electrical machinery. The share of exports in the manufacturing of chemicals and electrical machinery is about 80%.

Production grew in all branches of machinery and apparatus manufacturing, mainly due to the increase in exports. In January, there was a growth also in the manufacture of textiles, because of the increase in the production of sewn textile articles, while the production of yarn and fabric continues to decrease.
