Germany 3D knitting pioneer Trisit Textiltechnologie GmbH & Co. has developed two unique reusable protective face masks, Face Mask Pro and Face Mask Vital, to fight COVID-19. Part of the Achtrer Group since 2001, the company is one of the early adopters of the Stoll flat knitting technology and specialises in 3D knitted handbags, lampshades, sneakers, etc.

The Face Mask Pro features a Velcro strip that can be tied to the neck and requires no contact with the ears and has an integrated pocket that allows easy change of filters.

The mask is light-weight, breathable, washable and reusable. It also adapts itself to the shape of the wearer without obstructing the mouth, which makes it more comfortable.

The mask uses a special filter fleece for additional barrier, manufactured by a German manufacturer of non-woven fabrics. “Our inserted filter fleece is also being used in the manufacturing of professional protective masks. The composite non-woven fabric has been tested in an independent laboratory and has shown very good filter performances, which increases the protection of others,” a spokesperson from the company said.

Face Mask Vital uses an elastic band that is worn either behind the head or ear. It also has a pocket integrated to it for inserting and changing the filter. It is light-weight, breathable, more comfortable, washable and reusable. This mask also uses the same non-woven filter as Pro.

The development has successfully qualified to the test standard of EN 14683 with the classification type IIR. However, the official approval for the mouth-nose protective mask is still required.

“The face mask currently does not meet the regulations required by EN 149 and therefore does not represent a personal protective equipment PSA,” the company said.
