Alibaba.com, a subsidiary of China's Alibaba Group is gearing up to take on the competition in India. As part of its strategy to make itself more relevant for India, the group is planning a Hindi portal for its B2B business.

Timothy Leung, in charge of global business development for Alibaba, said that the move would make it more convenient for SMEs to get on board with Alibaba. At the Group's headquarters in Hangzhou, China, an Indian tech support team is working on the Hindi version of the website which is expected to start in a couple of months

Alibaba is targeting the small and medium scale space in the Indian business to business (B2B) segment. Leung said that the company is the top B2B platform in the world, its goal in India is to reach out to 10 million SMEs and help them in trading on its website.

Earlier this week, Alibaba announced the launch of an online platform, SMILE (Small and Medium Industries Leveraging Export), at the CII Global SME Business Summit 2015 in New Delhi. SMILE aims to provide Indian SMEs access to global business trading counterparts and one-stop trading solutions. (SH)
