At ATDC workshop, top govt official stresses on skill

A top Textiles Ministry official has underlined the importance of skilled labour for the apparel sector, particularly after the government's announcement of a massive package to boost the sector.

Ms Anu Garg, IAS, Joint Secretary, (Skill Development) Ministry of Textiles made the observations at a 2-day workshop on 'Apparel Product-Quality Assurance' conducted on June 22 and 23 at the ATDC Hub Faridabad.

The workshop was organised with the aim of upgrading knowledge base and skill levels of personnel of the apparel industry by the Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC).

The workshop was designed to train the professionals in a manner that they are able to bring improvement in their product line, to offer quality products as per the consumer's demands. There were about 22 participants including 18 Industry professionals from leading brands like Black Berry, Pearl Academy, Neetee Clothing, Mohan Trading, etc, ATDC said ina press release.

ATDC Faridabad and Ballabhgarh students of Sewing Machine Operator (SMO) and SMART CAD were given ISDS Certificates by the Chief Guest, Ms Anu Garg, IAS, Joint Secretary, (Skill Development) Ministry of Textiles.

In her valedictory address, Ms Garg, said, “The textile policy announced on Wednesday was a long standing demand of the industry. It is expected to create one crore jobs in the next three years, that means there would be a huge requirement of skilled labour and as we talk of skilled labour we talk of institutions like ATDC and its students.”

“These training camps should not be taken as fun activities or recreation, they are of much importance as they not only rejuvenate us, but also acquaint us with new technologies and developments in the field.”

Dr Darlie Koshy, DG & CEO, ATDC, was elated on the successful completion of the workshop. He said, “ATDC-ToT has always played vital role in training ATDC's internal teaching resources and Industry Trainers. Advanced and customized training programs of ATDC-TOT Academics have been widely appreciated by leading apparel brands and well known International brands like Zara etc. which have made use of ATDC's customized training programmes.”

“The quality of training provided by ATDC ToT Academy is much appreciated by everyone and will certainly help us to grow and enhance our Skills,” said Sushil Tripathi, Production manager, Blackberrys.

The workshop was professionally designed so that the participants could understand their roles and responsibilities, and also learn the best practices from leading experts of the apparel industry. They were enlightened that they should focus on the quality that is delivered to the customers, without it one cannot contribute to the growth of the organization, the release said. (SH)
