The government of Bangladesh has offered Spanish investors a special economic zone (SEZ) with the increase in trade ties with European countries, as per Bangladeshi media reports

Spain is the fourth largest importer of products from Bangladesh, after the US, Germany, and the UK. Garments, jute, jute yarns, jute goods, and home textiles form a huge part of the exports from Bangladesh to Spain.

After a meeting with Spain's ambassador to Bangladesh Eduardo de Laiglesia, Bangladesh commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said the government has offered to create a SEZ for Spain. He informed that the government aims to develop 200 SEZs across the nation.

Bangladesh exported goods worth $1.76 billion to Spain during the fiscal year 2014-15, up from $1.61 billion in the previous year, while it imported goods worth $129.7 million for the fiscal year 2014-15, an increase from $97.6 million in the previous year. (HO)
