The business model of Mexican vegan leather manufacturing firm Desserto focuses on four aspects: social, economic, environmental and ethical sustainability, according to co-founder Adrián López Velarde, who said getting adequate quantity of the raw material—cactus—is not a problem as the major concentration of cactus species in the world is in their region.

“It is important to remark that we don't kill the plant, we just cut the mature leafs and then process them into our raw material. So, the same cactus plants give us more raw material every six to eight months,” he told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
