The new concept is also an attempt to reduce returns of merchandise purchased by customers, according to media reports.

The 3D trial room has been introduced in partnership with UK-based firm Metail. The virtual trial room allows customers to try out fashion options and it has almost doubled the time they spend on the portal, according to Prashant Gupta, President and CEO of abof. The result is that return rates are down to almost zero compared with the industry average of about 20 per cent.

Gupta claimed abof.com is going to pioneer instant exchange policies by which the customer will be able to exchange a garment instantly for the right size.

Along with body measurements, the tool will also incorporate skintone and hairstyle to create an outfit overview for the customer, Vikram Bhat, Chief Product Office of abof.com, said.

The application has first been rolled out for women and will be available for male customers at a later stage. With the launch of the 3D trial room, abof.com claims it has seen an increase in conversions by 400 per cent and also a drop in returns to almost nil.

In order to build the 3D trial room, the company has invested in special cameras, which takes 18 pictures of a garment in one go, thus getting it ready for a 3D trial room on the site. (SH)
