Scotland-based woollen mill Johnstons of Elgin expects to be back at pre-pandemic levels by 2022 as it is witnessing significantly stronger than expected demands this year, according to the company’s chief executive officer Simon Cotton. He added that the demand had dropped sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is now recovering rapidly.

Talking about the changes in consumer behaviour due to the pandemic, he said, “We have seen quite dramatic changes in consumer behaviours. We have been very pleased to see consumers taking much more interest in how the products they buy are made, who makes them and how those producers are looked after. We see a small but growing group of consumers who genuinely care about these things.”

“We also saw a massive shift away from formal office clothing to a more casual ‘all day’ style of dressing, and we believe that shift will continue post-pandemic,” Cotton told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.
