Lululemon Athletica, a performance apparel and footwear company, has announced the nationwide expansion of Lululemon Like New, the brand’s first trade-in and resale programme, while American specialty retailer Pacsun and ThredUP have unveiled Pre-Loved Pac, a 360-resale programme allowing Pacsun customers to clean out their closets for Pacsun credit and shop pre-loved clothing directly through Pacsun’s website.

Starting on Earth Day, April 22, Lululemon Like New will be available to all guests across the US, following a successful two-state pilot in 2021. The programme reinvests 100 per cent of profits to support Lululemon’s commitments outlined in its Impact Agenda, including making 100 per cent of products with sustainable materials and end-of-use solutions by 2030, the company said in a press release.

Lululemon has partnered with the resale technology provider Trove for the pilot and expansion, leveraging its recognised expertise in branded recommerce to support resale operations.

Pacsun leveraged ThredUP’s Resale-as-a-Service (RaaS) to build a white-labelled resale channel, including a digital shop, clean out programme and cash out offerings for its customers. Pacsun is one of the world’s leading youth retailers, delivering customised, scalable resale experiences to their customers through ThredUP’s RaaS, the company said in a press release.

Pre-Loved Pac includes three resale elements that promote circular fashion – a cleanout programme, cash-out incentives and a resale shop on Pacsun’s website. All elements encourage customers to rotate their wardrobe sustainably, buy second-hand and receive credit to repeat the process. ThredUP Clean Out Kits can be filled with women’s and kids’ apparel, shoes and accessories from any brand and are shipped to ThredUP for free using a prepaid shipping label. The customer gets paid for their re-sellable items in the form of a Pacsun gift card. Additionally, any ThredUP seller can now turn ThredUP credit into Pacsun credit, with a value that is 10 per cent higher than the cash payment option.
