A delegation of American legislators, on a visit to Philippines, along with senior officials of the US House of Representatives, has vouched their support for the passage of the Philippines' 'Save Our Industries Act'.

The bill is aimed at reviving the local Filipino garment as well as the US textile industries.

The team is headed by Republican legislator Dana Rohrabacher of California. Democrats Russ Carnahan of Missouri, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Jim Costa of California, and Texas Republicans Louie Gohmert and Ted Poe, also form a part of the US Congressional delegation.

At a dinner hosted by the Philippines-United States Business Council, Trade and Industry Undersecretary, Cristino L. Panlilio made a request to the visiting US legislators to push for the passage of the SAVE Act.

The Undersecretary made a mention of the long historic bond between the two countries and briefed the delegation about the mutual advantages that can be availed by the US textile sector as well as by the Filipino garment producers in the form of employment generation.

In response, Rohrabacher promised that he would push for the passage of the proposed bill and even asked his colleagues to do so. He said that “free trade should be promoted between sovereign nations” and added that “Philippines being a democratic country, trade relations should be allowed to prosper”.
