Woodland to launch new unit, outlets

Woodland, a footwear and apparel brand, will be establishing a new production unit at Greater Noida and opening 60 new exclusive outlets pan India with an investment of more than one billion rupees during the current fiscal.

The company is setting up a new denim and woven garments manufacturing unit at Greater Noida at a cost of around Rs. 600-700 million. The new unit is expected to go operational in the next three to four months time.

The new unit will be in addition to the 10 production plants the company presently operates in North India for production of outdoor shoes. However, the job of manufacturing fashion footwear collection is outsourced by it to China and Vietnam.

The company also proposes to launch 60 new exclusive Woodland outlets in the country, especially in Tier II and Tier III cities, at a cost of Rs. 400 million. Around half of the new proposed outlets would come up as large format stores each measuring around 10-12 thousand square feet.

The company presently runs more than 300 exclusive stores across the country and even has its presence in 400 multi-brand outlets.

In the current financial year, the company's sales is expected to cross rupees eight billion at a growth rate of 30 percent.

In addition to enlarging its physical retail network, the company is also actively expanding its online retail network, and over the next couple of years the company foresees its online sales accounting for 10 percent of its overall sales.
