American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) President and CEO Kevin M. Burke applauded action by the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee to hold mock mark-ups on the three pending free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama, and South Korea.
“The swift passage of these important pending free trade agreements will strengthen our fragile economy with job creation right here in the United States. Today's successful mock mark-ups by the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways and Means Committee pave the way for quick Congressional passage of these long-stalled agreements.
“The U.S. apparel and footwear industry is able to maintain its competitive edge in the global marketplace when we reduce barriers to trade. Along with the passage of the pending free trade agreements, we look forward to immediate and retroactive renewal of the Andean Trade Preferences Act (ATPA), the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Creating certainty and opportunities for growth will enable our industry, and the more than one million U.S. workers we employ, to continue delivering quality, safe, and affordable clothing and shoes to hardworking American families.”
The American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) is the national trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewn products companies, and their suppliers, which compete in the global market.
