Taiwanese aboriginals create doll clothes

With an aim to lead the path for growth of creative industry in textile business, the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP), Taiwan has launched an exhibition showcasing a collection of ceramic dolls sporting folk costumes.

The exhibition forms a part of several ideas that the Council has come up with to conserve the rich traditions and cultural heritage of aboriginals in the modern-day commercialized societies.

Since the show is being held on an experimental basis, just eight pairs of clothes are put on display at present. Depending on the success rate of the present show, the CIP would decide regarding organizing such other exhibitions on a bigger scale in future.

While the present collection drew inspiration from clothes that the Truku, Sediq and Atayal tribes don, well-known artists belonging to aboriginal tribes spent over a month's time to give them a touch of modernity.

The present collection, which is on display till August 17, is not meant for sale, but the CIP is open to business proposals from marketing professionals who could help take these designs on to a global level.
