Italian luxury label Brioni is closing down its womenswear line to focus more on its menswear business. The company is also terminating its contract with creative director Alessandro Dell'Acqua.
The company has attributed the decision to close the women's line to the need to put more focus on its menswear business, as it has grown more global and competitive.
In view of the decision, the company has canceled the label's spring 2012 womenswear show, scheduled to be held during Milan Fashion Week in end of September.
Founded in Rome in 1945, Brioni had more than 300 stores globally by the 1990s. It then ventured into womenwear line. The label has been a favourite with stars like Al Pacino and Pierce Brosnan.
