Mattel Toys is planning to enter India's kidswear segment by the year-end. The company already has Barbie range of clothes and accessories and will be launching kidswear through its popular Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price brands.

The company makes the worldwide popular Barbie dolls and has Barbie Back to School and Barbie Apparel in the market. It now intends to take its Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price brands to the same heights. While Hot Wheels will be catering to apparel segment, Fisher-Price would be for babywear segment.

Mattel Toys does not own any stores, although it has licensed out a few Barbie stores to The Shirt Company. It does not plan to enter itself into retailing in a big way and sells its products through retail chains like Lifestyle, Big Bazaar, Mom & Me, Crossword, etc.

The kidswear market in India is valued at around Rs. 330 billion and is currently growing by 10-11 percent every year. In 2010, the girls' apparel market was worth Rs. 158 billion, while the boys' apparel market was estimated at Rs. 174 billion.
