Sale of used innerwear will be banned post December 31, as per the second ultimatum issued by the Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS).
The RBS has told retailers of garments and accessories that they would not be permitted to sell used innerwear after the said date.
The measure has been taken to avoid spread of any disease, according to RBS's Public Relations Officer Simeon Kwizera.
A ban on import of all innerwear was initially made effective in February, but was later revised after discussions with the dealers.
However, from July 31 onwards, all dealers were strictly told not to place any new orders for import of innerwear, but are being allowed to sell their last stock.
According to the RBS, importation of used innerwear has already stopped and the deadlines have been respected by all stakeholders so far.
