In order to establish a swift response system for production, garment makers in Fiji need to explore and get into strategic alliance with Australian firms, according to an expert.

Excepting a few, the domestic garment firms in Fiji have so far kept away from penetrating into production of high-end fashion garments and remained stuck to production of corporate wear or basic garments.

To diversify their production to fashion garments, these firms would need much more organizational capabilities in addition to a highly-skilled and expert workforce.

Though the Government's assistance to the industry is credible, still more steps could be initiated to encourage the country's fashion industry, the expert opined.

The Fiji Government has extended a US$ 300,000 loan for the fashion industry for its promotion activities. The Fijian fashion industry will be participating in fashion shows in Australia to market itself and accelerate its growth.

The expert, while praising the Fiji Fashion Week, said that the event unveiled the abilities of the designers and furthered them an opportunity to create and present their work before people.

According to the expert, the Fijian designers are fortunate as the market that they were focusing on is nearby.

The expert stated that the designers in Fiji have potential to market themselves on a global platform.
