Vietnam's apparel exports jumped 29.2 percent year-on-year to cross the US$ 8.95 billion mark during the January-August period of 2011, as per the Vietnam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS) data.

At the current growth trend, the country's garment exports is expected to surpass the target of US$ 13 billion, and may touch US$ 13.5 billion, according to VITAS.

The rise in Vietnam's apparel exports is due to the increase in the number of orders received by domestic manufacturers. In fact, Vietnam has benefited the most owing to a shift in global orders from China to other countries in the recent past.

Companies like Nha Be Garment Corp and Dong Nai Garment Cop (Donagamex) have also seen a surge in their exports during the first eight months of the current year.

The surge in export orders has necessitated domestic garment firms to expand their production capacities in order to execute their orders on time. For the purpose, analysts agree, it is essential that these garment companies maintain a stable workforce in terms of their skill.

Some of the garment manufacturing companies are finding it little difficult to manage their workers or to recruit new ones. In addition to labour shortage, the Vietnamese garment industry is facing problems like increasing costs of energy.
