Knitwear, sleepwear exports grow

Pakistan's knitwear and sleepwear exports have grown during the first two months of Pakistani fiscal year which began in July 2011.

As stated by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the country's knitwear exports rose by 12.53 percent as around 22.902 million dozen knitwear worth US$ 424 million were shipped during the review period.

The country exported 20.836 million dozen knitwear worth US$ 377 million during the initial two months of fiscal 2010-11.

Likewise, sleepwear exports from the country also grew by 5.26 percent with 44,908 metric tons of sleepwear worth US$ 358 million being exported from the country during the review period. During the corresponding period of previous fiscal, Pakistan exported 56,093 metric tons of sleepwear worth US$ 340 million.

Readymade garment exports too surged by 21.75 percent during the review period to around 6.511 million dozen pieces during July-August this year, and thus brought in US$ 122 million to the country in the form of revenues.
