Japanese apparel giant World has bought Fashionwalker, the online fashion site for girls in their teens and women under-30, at a cost of 1.1 billion yen (US$ 14.3 million).
Fashionwalker was founded about a decade ago by Branding, the company known for Tokyo Girls Collection and girlswalker.com. Fashionwalker's online site sells around 300 brands and recorded sales of eight billion yen in the year ending August 2011. It has a membership of nearly 600,000.
The latest acquisition by World will add to the company's online expansion after the recent launch of its web-based store and an outlet within the Amazon's Japan portal. World is expected to benefit from the expertise of the Fashionwalker team in fashion information delivery and database management.
