A garment factory is likely to be set up in Karnataka's Dharwad taluk, if the efforts of the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Seema Masuti bear fruit.
Inaugurating a workshop on the State government's 'Suvarna Vastra Neethi', the MLA representing Dharwad rural constituency said she would send a proposal to the government for establishing a garment manufacturing unit in Dharwad.
The Suvarna Vastra Neethi (Golden Textile Policy) launched in 2008 by the State government is being extended till 2013, she added. The scheme is aimed at providing training in handloom and textile making for women.
She informed that the State government is now setting up garment factories in rural areas so as to generate employment for those women who have completed training under the scheme. Hence, she urged the women in Dharwad region to enroll themselves for the training programme under the scheme and improve their skills.
MLA Chandrakanth Bellad, who represents the neighbouring Hubli-Dharwad (West) constituency, said the Suvarna Vastra Neethi is a good opportunity for rural women to get employment and increase their earning opportunities.
He said the government will provide the land for establishing the garment factory.
