Clothing exports to EU, Japan & S Korea skyrocket

Garment exports continued to be mainstay of overall exports from the country in the period January to October 2011.

In the first 10 months of 2011, shipments from the clothing industry totaled to US $11.7 billion, up an astounding 29.4 percent year-on-year.

Looking at the figures of the first ten months, apparel exports will easily cross the $13.7 billion mark, up 20.5 percent over 2010 and will also cross the targeted figures.

Positive growth has been recorded to all the overseas markets including to its biggest market – the US to which garment exports touched $5.2 billion, up 15.2 percent in the period.

Vietnam also posted very impressive growth to other regions like European Union and Japan.

Clothing shipments to EU stood at US $1.92 billion, up a staggering 43.7 percent and to Japan it reached US $1.22 billion, an astounding rise of 52.8 percent.

Riding on the free trade deal between South Korea and ASEAN of which Vietnam is a member country, shipments skyrocketed more than two times to $631 million.
