'Eco Swim By Aqua Green' to clean up water bodies

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN, the nation's leading distributor of ecofriendly swimwear, will host 12 ocean and waterway cleanups in 2012 with United By Blue, an ocean friendly brand of apparel.

“We hosted two cleanups with United By Blue during the 2011 season,” says Alex Waldman of ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN. “Both events were successes for local waterways in our community and for ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN teammates. Everyone had a great time giving back and doing their part.”

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the upper and lower Delaware rivers at two cleanups in 2011 that were co-hosted with United By Blue. ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN sells a line of sexy and sustainable swimwear. United By Blue is an apparel and accessories brand that, for every product sold, removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways.

“There's no shortage of trash to go around, and we're always happy to partner with other groups to clean up our oceans and waterways,” says Brian Linton, United By Blue's Founder and Chief Trash Collector.

The partnership between ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN and United By Blue to host ocean and waterway cleanups, is among the first of its kind. “Plenty of people are talking about carbon issues, and some are talking about plastic pollution. There's a lot of talk, but little action. We're proud to be doing something concrete as part of the solution," says Waldman.

At past cleanups, volunteers have found different types of trash, ranging from plastic water bottles to Styrofoam, lawn chairs to construction debris. “It's incredible the kinds of things that people throw out and forget about,” says Waldman.

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN has found that cleanups have helped reinforce their in-house environmental efforts and employee engagement. “We have a state-of-the-art recycling system at our facilities. And when employees see what happens to waterways when others don't recycle or dispose of waste properly, it encourages them to be more mindful of their own waste. It increases everyone's sense of responsibility,” says Waldman.

Indeed, committing to an unprecedented number of cleanups makes ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN a leader in employee engagement. Their sustainability program doesn't stop at encouraging good behavior, but makes it fun. “Most people want to be a part of something bigger than themselves,” says Waldman.

The company's sustainability program is just one of its many initiatives to make the world a little cleaner. The brand has led the way in sustainable, stylish, and sexy swimwear. They were the first in the industry to use textiles made from upcycled plastic bottles, fishing nets, and carpet fibers.

“So much trash makes its way into oceans and waterways every year,” says Waldman. “And who loves the water more than swimmers and beach-goers? Keeping plastic pollution out of oceans and waterways by turning it into something new is a great fit for our customers.”

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN products can be found in better specialty and department stores, as well as on websites. For more information about ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN's environmental leadership, swimwear, and events.
