Eco Swim By Aqua Green celebrates end of its first year

It's been an exciting first year for eco-friendly swimwear brand ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN, which experienced higher than expected sales and overwhelming support during its first year in stores.

“What started as a simple idea has turned into an incredible brand with an instant following,” says Alex Waldman of ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN.

That idea came back in 2010, when Waldman and his team observed both the growing trend toward environmentally friendly apparel and the parallel increase in the amount of pollution ending up in the ocean every year.

“As a swimwear brand, caring about the oceans is ingrained both in our culture and in our consumer's mind. So when the technology to turn PET water bottles and old nylon into swimsuit textiles became viable,” explains Waldman. “We saw a hole in the market for sustainable, upcycled swimwear that didn't sacrifice style, and we pounced,”

That technology was developed by Repreve, a brand of yarn made from both pre- and post-consumer recycled waste and one of ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN's environmental partners.

“The “first quality” recycled fibers available from Repreve have only recently become viable, and their innovative technology makes it possible for ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN to produce swimsuits that are as stylish and soft as they are sustainable,” says Waldman.

“Without them, we wouldn't be able to do what we do. And for that, we thank them.”

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN collaborates with a second partner, United By Blue (UBB). UBB is a brand of ocean-friendly apparel that removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways for every product sold.

UBB has worked with ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN to co-host two cleanups that removed over 3,000 pounds of trash from the Delaware River in 2011.

“We're grateful that we were able to host 2 cleanups with UBB, community volunteers, and our employees, and we're looking forward to hosting 12 more cleanups in 2012,” says Waldman.

Speaking of its volunteers and employees, ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN would also like to thank those who volunteered their time at cleanups and their employees for being so engaged with the company's on-site recycling facilities and for taking the company culture to the next level.

And most of all, ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN would like to thank its customers. “The droves upon droves of early adopters that sent the brand's swimsuits flying off shelves have confirmed our hunch that women want to look good and be kind to the earth,” says Waldman. “Thank you all for your support.”

ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN products can be found in better specialty and department stores, as well as on websites. For more information about ECO SWIM BY AQUA GREEN's environmental leadership, swimwear, and events.
