Lingerie retailer La Senza to shut 80 UK stores

Canada's premier lingerie retailer La Senza will close 80 of its UK stores leading to a loss of hundreds of jobs.

The latest announcement by KPMG, the company that is working on an immediate rescue plan for La Senza, also includes closure of the lingerie retail outlets in Bristol, Edinburgh and Cambridge.

The retailer has put the onus on trading conditions for shutting down many of its branches, including those in Londonderry, Ballymena and at the Victoria Square and Castle Court shopping centres in Belfast.

By announcing the closures, La Senza has joined several other retail chains that have made similar announcements during the last few days.

Founded in 1990, La Senza currently operates over 480 stores in 45 countries employing 2,600 persons.

Until 2006, La Senza's UK division was owned by Dragon's Den star Theo Paphitis.
