Although Ecuadorian garment sector has witnessed a nine percent year-on-year growth in 2011, its further growth has been hampered due to lack of skilled labour and unavailability of latest machines, according to industry analysts.
They say that all people engaged in Ecuadorian garment sector are not highly skilled to work on automated machines.
According to Textile Industry Association of Ecuador, there is a shortage of about 15,000 skilled personnel in the country's garment sector.
Hence, the Ecuadorian garment sector is unable to meet its domestic demand and the country has to depend to an extent on apparel imports.
In 2011, Ecuadorian apparel and accessories imports grew to US$ 140.84 million, up 55.67 percent from imports worth US$ 219.25 million registered a year earlier, as per the figures of the National Customs Service.
