Harold Tillman, Chairman of British Fashion Council (BFC), has suggested that the UK Government should introduce steps aimed at encouraging Chinese consumers to visit their country.
Mr. Tillman urged the Government to ease visa procedures for Chinese applicants, so they can spend money on purchases in the United Kingdom.
He mentioned that Chinese consumers have played an important role for European economy since the onset of financial slowdown.
He said that the Chinese consumers visiting London on average have spent 1058 pounds on single spending during January-October 2011, which was 10 times more than the single spending by an ordinary UK consumer during the same period.
A growing number of Chinese consumers have started preferring British brands for their own unique reasons. They are willing to spend, if they find their favourite branded items, he added.
In fact, global fashion brands like Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Louis Vuitton have started hiring Chinese staff to better communicate with Chinese shoppers.
Moreover, some shopping malls have also begun accepting the China UnionPay payment mode to attract Chinese consumers.
