Explosive growth in 2011, Angelique Lingerie

Online retailer Angelique Lingerie experienced explosive growth in 2011, with sales up 56 percent as the demand for plus-size lingerie and sleepwear continues to rise. Angelique Lingerie is one of the few companies specializing in plus-size lingerie and sleepwear, with sizes up to 6X.

Mia Bulifa developed the idea for what is now the profitable lingerie business after trying to shop for plus-size lingerie. She couldn't find any ear while shopping in the Denver area, but knew that there must be a market for it. Mia and her sister Nadia launched Angelique Lingerie internationally in 2005.

Since then, Angelique Lingerie has served more than 60,000 customers from around the world. Based in Denver, Angelique keeps more than 98 percent of its wide selection of items in stock.

Bulifa, 29, said that Angelique has little competition. Some plus-size stores sell lingerie and sleepwear, but very few specialize in it. Angelique sells sizes 14-28.

No matter what the economy, Angelique Lingerie has grown each year. Bulifa said she's not surprised by her business growth because of the increasing market demand. Many apparel manufacturers who have never offered plus-sizes before are now releasing new plus-size lines.

Angelique Lingerie also has really focused on customer service, faster shipping and increasing inventory so that backorders are rare. All of these efforts have been successful, as Angelique Lingerie was named a Top 1000 Internet Retailer in 2011.

“We also offer top brands like Shirley of Hollywood, Dreamgirl and Coquette,” Bulifa said. “For 2012 we are expanding the amount of products we are carrying to offer an even bigger selection for the customer. We will still be adding new styles throughout the year to keep things new and fresh.”
