In order to give a boost to the country's textiles and garment sector, Russia is planning to reintroduce compulsory uniforms for school going children.

Experts say it would be a good idea as Russian textile producers and apparel designers are capable of offering uniforms to school children in several varieties and in different patterns.

However, experts say the fabrics should be breathable and must be made of ecologically pure materials.

It should also contain a certain amount of silver to combat bacteria, and most of all, they should be affordable, they add.

Some experts, while supporting such an idea, say it would be better if a decision to introduce compulsory school uniforms is made by parents and educational institutions, rather than bureaucrats.

At present, the decision regarding school uniforms is taken by school authorities in consultation with parents and the regional administration as well as the government has no say in the matter.
