Dass, a Brazilian sportswear company, has invested US$ 5 million to set up a manufacturing unit in Paraguay.
The operations at the new plant will commence this month and initially around 600 people will be employed at the unit. In the second stage, employment opportunities for another 1,500 people would be created, according to Minister of Industry and Commerce Francisco Rivas.
The Paraguayan Minister was informed by Dass officials about the progress of work at the new unit that will operate on an area of 10 hectares.
Paraguay, a Mercosur member, was chosen by Dass for setting up its new manufacturing unit owing to competitive operating costs and support from the Ministry, said Joao Henrique, Director of Business Operations at Dass.
The Brazilian firm currently manufactures 2,000 to 3,000 sportswear varieties, employing more than 11,000 people in Argentina, Brazil and some Asian countries.
Dass plans to export 90 percent of its production from Paraguayan unit.
