SACTWU calls on members to support COSATU protest action

The Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU) calls on all its members to support The Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU) protest action. It is time that the scourge of labour brokering is eradicated permanently from the society.

The trade union has spent the last period mobilising for the protest action. Labour brokering affects all workers in the country, so SACTWU call on all workers and the broader civil society to support this noble struggle against what effectively amounts to exploitative 'human trafficking'.

SACTWU is the biggest union in the clothing, textile and leather industry in South Africa, with 99,000 members at the end of June 2010. This allows SACTWU to represent members more effectively.

The Congress of South African Trade Union (COSATU), its affiliates and locals embark on the national strike as planned.

COSATU was launched in December 1985 after four years of unity talks between unions opposed to apartheid and committed to a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa.
