Cleverhood launches Made-in-USA rainwear

After more than a year of scouring the U.S. garment industry for quality parts and assemblers, Cleverhood is pleased to announce its grand opening – just in time for April Showers. Created in Providence, Cleverhood is a line of distinctive rain capes for downtown walking and biking. It is comprised of mostly US-made components and assembled by U.S. garment workers.

“Tradition has held that April showers bring May flowers, but we'll see if our upside-down weather patterns continue,” said Susan Mocarski, creator of Cleverhood and head of the eponymously named small company. “We think a sustainable outlook is vital today and we take our inspiration from the slow-bike movement, which exemplifies the way people are adapting culturally to better practices.”

Sustainability covers economic, environmental and social dimensions. The slow bike movement touches them all. Beyond reducing traffic and encouraging exercise, city bikers tend to take greater interest in their local environment and are ushering in new ideas in art and fashion.

Cleverhood employs U.S. garment workers and includes high-quality features like rugged zippers, reflective materials and elastics from nearby suppliers. Designed for urban explorers and upright bikers, it combines a unique style with reliable, high-performance standards.

“The Cleverhood is designed for people who are willing to experience the rain, rather than just getting wet,” said Mocarski. “We know our customers can depend on our product. Many of our beta testers have been city bikers with high standards for both performance -- and fashion.”

Cleverhood has been featured at fashion shows in NYC, Philadelphia, San Francisco and last month at the Portland bike show.

Based in Providence, Cleverhood LLC is a new, small business that produces a unique brand of outerwear that reflects an affirmation of American ingenuity, local places and solid reliability.
