Li Ning Company Ltd., a leading Chinese sportswear firm, has re-entered the Children's wear market in China.
Chinese kidswear market already has a number of players and Li Ning's move will further intensify the competition, according to experts.
Li Ning's sportswear sales have declined by around six percent and its profits have decreased by 65.2 percent year-on-year in 2011. Its net profit has fallen compared to those of other domestic sportswear brands.
The company is now focusing sports and leisure clothing for children and is expecting to gain from the huge kidswear market in China.
Like Li Ning, another domestic sportswear firm, the Fujian-based 361 Degrees International Ltd., is continuing with its expansion plans in the Chinese children's wear segment. The company plans to launch 600 new kidswear stores in Tier II and III cities this year.
China's kidswear market is expected to be worth 100 billion yuan by next year, producing around 5 billion pieces annually, according to the China National Garment Association.
