Hohenstein to conduct chemical protective clothing tests
May '12
Personal protective clothing must be capable of providing reliable protection to the wearer for the most extreme requirements. Clear guidelines apply to its manufacture since legislators, retailers and consumers constantly set themselves higher and higher product quality and safety standards.

For this reason Personal Protective Clothing must only be introduced to the market if it meets the requirements of European Directive 89/686/EEC and displays the EC Conformity Mark.

The test must be carried out by accredited test institutes. The Hohenstein Institute (Notified Body 0555) is an independent testing and certification agent for Personal Protective Clothing in accordance with the EU-Directive and recently also obtained approval to carry out chemical protective clothing tests.

Protective clothing to protect against liquid chemicals in accordance with EN 13034 Type 6 is particularly suitable for work in laboratories or industrial research institutes.

Jackets, trousers and overalls with this approval protect the wearer from aerosols, sprays and various liquid chemical spatters. This protection forms part of many multifunctional Personal Protective Clothing items.

This approval will now enable the Hohenstein Institute to offer more tests and accreditations for Personal Protective Clothing. The optimised test processes, standardised textile technological tests, flexibility and reliability mean that materials tests can be carried out within 10 working days.

The Hohenstein experts also have expertise, in addition to the tests for protective clothing, in heat and flame protection tests and in high-visibility warning clothing and weather and clothing protective against cold climate.

The Hohenstein Institute is also a recognised certification agent for the universal fire-resistant clothing of the German Federal States (HuPF).
