Bangladesh RMG workers demand reopening of Ashulia units

Several readymade garment (RMG) workers’ organizations, including the Bangladesh Textile-Garments Workers Federation, have demanded reopening of all the 350 garment factories in Ashulia by June 20.

RMG manufacturing units in Ashulia Apparel Industrial Belt, located on the outskirts of Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, were shut by their owners on June 11, 2012, after workers started protesting demanding wage hike.

Workers organizations have warned that they will launch massive protests if the garment factories are not reopened on June 20.

They urged the owners to deliberate with their representatives to resolve the crisis, which is severely affecting the country’s economy.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour has called representatives of all labour groups in the country for discussion on Wednesday, with an aim to find solution to the issue.
