Johnstons of Elgin bags Moray Export Award

Johnstons of Elgin have taken the top honor at the Moray Chamber of Commerce Awards - the Moray Export Award.

Johnstons of Elgin, which recorded sales of £50 million in 2011, a milestone for the company, has recently made major inroads into markets in the US, Japan and Korea, as well as the emerging markets of Brazil and China.

The Moray Export Award was sponsored by Walkers Shortbread, itself a past winner of three Queen’s Awards for Export Achievement.

James Dracup, Group Managing Director of Johnstons of Elgin, says “We are particularly delighted to receive this prestigious award from the Moray Chamber of Commerce, as manufacturing and selling cashmere and fine woollen knitwear, accessories and cloth from the two Scottish communities in which we sit, is at the core of our business strategy.”

Our business has been exporting product since the early 19th century and in 2012 we were proud to export globally to over 40 countries in the world. I would like to thank the 750 people who work within our business, in Scotland and export markets, without whom receiving this award would not have been possible”.

Known for their extraordinary cashmere and beautiful tweed products, Johnstons has been manufacturing in Elgin since 1797. Their history is one of quality, resilience and above all outstanding provenance. It is the only mill in Scotland to take cashmere from fibre to the finished product, and is the relied upon manufacturer for international fashion brands and Savile Row tailors alike.
