Bangladesh to seek duty-free RMG access to US market

Readymade garment (RMG) manufacturers from Bangladesh will urge the US to allow duty-free access of their products, during their visit to the North American country. 
 
Representatives of garment sector are among the 23-member delegation accompanying Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is attending the 67th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
 
During their discussions with Government officials and other businessmen, Bangladeshi entrepreneurs are likely to seek duty-free access for Bangladeshi apparels to the US.
 
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin and former BGMEA president Mizanur Rahman Sinha are part of the Prime Minister’s entourage.
 
In Bangladeshi fiscal 2011-12 that ended on June 30, the country exported knitwear items worth US$ 9.48 billion and woven garments worth US$ 9.6 billion to several countries.
 
Around one-quarter of all Bangladeshi apparel exports are destined to the US.
