Taiwan Textile Fairs in India & Sri Lanka draw crowds

The fair commenced in Colombo, Sri Lanka where a large number of buyers interacted with the TTF exhibitors for the first time. Taiwan Textile Fairs in South Asia 2012 was inaugurated by Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, Chairman, EDB (Chief Guest) in the presence of Mr. Rohan Abayakoon, Chairman, Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Ms. Alikie Pereira, Deputy Secretary General, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Hiran Bandaranaike, Secretary General, Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association, and Mr. Gopal Iyer, Immediate Past Chairman, Sri Lanka Apparel Sourcing Association.

Mr. Abayakoon was positive that strong ties would be forged between the Sri Lankan garment industry and the Taiwanese manufacturers. Sourcing & merchandising teams of the leading garment exporters in Sri Lanka like Brandix Garments, MAS Holdings, Hirdaramani Group, Timex Garments, EAM Maliban Textiles Pvt. Ltd, Trendywear Pvt. Ltd. to name a few visited the exhibition and networked with the exhibitors.

The Taiwan Textile Business Forum was attended by the heads of some of the leading garment exporters, heads of industry associations, buyers and more. Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, the Chief Guest for the evening, welcomed the Taiwanese exhibitors to Sri Lanka and extended his best wishes to them for future business tie-ups. The 1st Taiwan Textile Fair ended on a positive one with exhibitors receiving strong leads and inquiries from visiting buyers.

The next fair in Bengaluru received a positive response from the garments and textile industry which was much better than 2011. This was the 4th consecutive year of Taiwan Textile Fairs hosted in Bengaluru. Leading garments and textile exporters, domestic garments manufacturers, brands such as Go Go International, Marks & Spencer, Proline, Wildcraft, Lifestyle International (Max), K Mohan & Company, Karle Group, Page Garments, Shahi Exports, Coats India (part of Madura Garments) etc., attended the event with their teams to look at the collection of fabrics and accessories showcased by the exhibitors. K Mohan & Company is travelling to Taiwan to source active wear, invited by TTF.

The last city for the Taiwan Textile Fairs in South Asia was Gurgaon at AEPC’s Source Zone, 2012 where the Taiwan Pavilion received inquiries from buying agents, domestic and international brands. Buyers from JC Penny, Macy’s, Reebok and Next, to name a few attended the 3 day event.

All in all, the show evoked a good response from the garment export firms of Sri Lanka and India. The buyers in India comprised all verticals of the garment industry from manufacturers and exporters to traders, dealers and importers. In Sri Lanka, the show was supported by the Export Development Board (EDB), the apex export body of Sri Lanka, and by Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Sri Lanka Apparel Exporters Association (SLAEA), Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and in India by Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA).

The exhibition attracted a total number of 1044 business buyers across all three cities. Exhibitors were pleased with the response from Sri Lanka and India in terms of number of buyers and inquiries generated during the course of the exhibitions. The volume of serious buyers was higher this year and all signs point towards good business ties in the future.
