The exports of readymade garments from Bangladesh increased in the first half of fiscal 2012-13.

Knitwear exports from Bangladesh earned US$ 4.975 billion during July-December 2012, registering a rise of 3.85 percent year-on-year, according to the statistics released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

On the other hand, woven garments surged by 11.53 percent year-on-year to US$ 4.971 billion, during the six-month period. However, earnings from the woven sector missed the target set by the Government by 2.36 percent.

Meanwhile, jute and jute goods exports fetched US$ 502.39 billion during the period under review, showing a growth of 5.30 percent over the same period last year.

During the first half of current fiscal, Bangladesh’s total exports stood at US$ 12.59 billion, up 6.96 percent over total exports of US$ 11.77 billion achieved during the corresponding period of last year.

Bangladesh has achieved nearly seven percent growth in its overall exports, despite several problems like shortage of power, economic crisis in the US and the EU and the prevailing high bank interest rates.
