Bangladesh apparel exports to US & EU post slow growth

The exports of readymade garments from Bangladesh to its traditional markets of the US and the EU have grown at a very slow pace during the first six months of the Bangladeshi fiscal that began on July 1, 2012.
Garment exports from Bangladesh grew by only US$ 63 million to US$ 2.27 billion in July-December 2012, Financial Express reported quoting data from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) research cell.
In the first six months of fiscal year 2011-12, Bangladesh exported clothing worth US$ 2.21 billion to the US.
Similarly, Bangladesh apparel exports to the EU countries fetched US$ 5.81 billion in the first six months of the current fiscal year, up 5.33 percent from US$ 5.52 billion worth of garment exports made during the corresponding period of previous fiscal.
