UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced the launch of a district dedicated to developing the country’s fashion, design and luxury sectors, to be created in Dubai.

The Prime Minister said the ‘Dubai Design District’ will be established near the Business Bay area of Dubai, according to a statement released by the Government of Dubai Media Office, reports The Emirates News Agency.

The district will be a commercial hub to support enterprises within the fashion and apparel value chain. It will include stores for established and emerging designers, design institutes, convention centre and event venues and related academic institutions.

The district will be built by a Dubai-based investment company, TECOM Investments, to provide high-street fashion options to the tourists as well as the residents of UAE.

The statement highlights the keen interest developing in national and international buyers, who visit Dubai, in buying fashionable clothing and accessories, and also in building their own design and creative skills.

This is reflected in the rapid growth in enrolment of students in fashion and design courses in the UAE, the statement says.

The new district will also help the local and regional designers of UAE, who are currently working towards establishing their name in the international fashion world.
