West Africa's largest garment unit to start in August'13

A new garment factory, said to be the largest in West Africa, will start functioning in Osogbo, the capital of Nigerian state of Osun, in August this year.
 
Sam & Sara, a Lagos-based uniform and garment manufacturing company, has invested multi-billion naira for setting up the garment unit, which is expected to create at least 3,000 employment opportunities, Nigerian newspaper Leadership reported.
 
The garment factory is being set up due to efforts of Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s efforts at creating jobs through encouraging private investors.
 
The new apparel unit would stitch uniforms for government-run primary and secondary schools across the state’s 30 local administrations.
 
The Osun government has provided 6,000 sq m of land for setting up the garment unit Osogbo. The Bank of Industry (BoI) financed most of the nearly N1.5 billion required for procuring machinery and equipment.
 
Over 800 machines of various designs, functions and capacities have already been installed at the factory that will have a capacity to produce 100,000 pieces per day.
 
Since it started business in 1987, Sam & Sara has grown to become a foremost garment manufacturing company in Nigeria, with flagship brands like Impresza, Delizio and Bijior becoming household names in the areas of school uniforms, corporate wear and promotional wear.
