Bangladesh garment exports cross $21bn-mark in FY'13

The exports of readymade garments earned US$ 21.515 billion in foreign exchange for Bangladesh during fiscal year 2012-13 that ended on June 30, 2013, according to the data released by the Export Promotion Bureau.
 
Bangladesh’s garment exports during July-June 2012-13 period have risen by about 12.7 percent over exports of US$ 19.089 billion made during the corresponding period of 2011-12.
 
Like previous years, garment exports continued to account for about 80 percent of US$ 27.018 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the year.
 
Among garments, woven apparel exports rose by 14.96 percent year-on-year to US$ 11.039 billion during the year, while knitwear exports grew by 10.43 percent year-on-year to US$ 10.475 billion.
 
Besides garments, Bangladesh also exported silk, wool, cotton and jute products; man-made filaments and staple fibres; carpets; specialized textiles and home textiles during 2012-13.
 
Among these, home textiles exports declined by 12.64 percent year-on-year to US$ 791.52 million, while exports in the wool and woolen products category decreased by 73.77 percent year-on-year.
 
Silk exports increased significantly to US$ 180,000 from mere US$ 10,000 worth of exports registered in the previous year.
