Peru's Gamarra traders aim at increasing exports to Brazil

A business delegation of 30 entrepreneurs from Peru’s Gamarra garment industry confirmed participation in the Expo Amazon 2013, with prospects of doing business with Brazil to export its top quality cotton products.

Manuel YTO, President of the Peruvian Association of Industrial Tailoring (APIC) said this would be an opportunity for companies to showcase their products and establish contacts for exporting large quantities of clothing, Peruvian news agency andina reported.

Mr. Manuel said Peruvian firms expect to sell 30,000 items at the fair and indicated that the entrepreneurs can establish business relations with Brazil, especially since the country would be hosting the football World Cup in 2014.

The Peruvian garment sector considers the greatest potential for business in the Brazilian market is for cotton garments, sportswear, innerwear, bedding and linens.

The third edition of the Expo Amazon Fair 2013 would be held from August 10 to 13 in the city of Iquitos, Peru.

International delegations from 14 countries including Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, Venezuela, China, and US would be participating in the event.

The four-day event is aimed at creating trade opportunities for companies in the country’s Amazon region and promoting their products or services in the domestic and international markets.

Last month, Peru’s Ministry of Production, Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism (Promperu) and the ACP Group signed an agreement to jointly promote exports of cotton garments worth US$ 100,000 from Gamarra to Brazil.
