The awards were presented at a star-studded, exclusive gala event at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Stockholm-based Acne Studios represents the “dynamic marriage between prêt-à-porter and tailoring” inspired by contemporary art and culture. The collections are defined by its signature juxtaposition and attention to detail with “a touch of contemporary grace”, which are created under the direction of founder and creative director, Jonny Johansson.
A feature of Johansson’s design is craftsmanship and detail, combined with an emphasis on tailoring and the use of an eclectic mix of materials and custom developed fabrics. And the brand has been central to the establishment of the Swedish contemporary fashion movement.
The brand launched its first collection with the most iconic garment of all, five-pocket denim, in 1997 when it designed 100 pairs in raw denim with red stitching which were distributed to friends, family and a handful of local clients. With denim as its backbone, the brand started building a full prêtà- porter collection in 1998.
Its first flagship store was established 2003 in central Stockholm. During the following years Acne Studios opened in Copenhagen, Berlin and London. Each store is individually designed by Jonny Johansson to acknowledge the space and spirit of the city.
Today Acne Studios has several stores in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Great Britain, the United States, Japan and Australia. The collection is also sold in over 500 of the most exclusive retailers worldwide, including Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Isetan, Harrods, Matches, Le Bon Marché and I.T Hong Kong.
