Turkey's exports of socks rise 17.4% in Jan-Sept'13

Turkey exported socks worth US$ 827.48 million during the first nine months of 2013, indicating an increase of 17.4 percent compared to the same period last year, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters Association (ITKIB).

According to the ITKIB report on Ready-made Clothing Sector, firms operating in the garment and ready-to-wear sector in the country exported socks worth US$ 827.48 million in the January to September period of this year.

The country’s socks exports accounted for 12 percent of the exports from knitted garments sector during the first nine months of 2013, whereas, during the same period last year, the exports of socks accounted for 11.1 percent of exports from the knitted garments sector.

Majority of the country’s socks exports were destined to the UK, with Turkey exporting socks worth US$ 198.72 million, followed by exports worth US$ 173.30 million to Germany, US$ 80.60 million to France, US$ 61.93 million to Spain and exports of socks worth US$ 38.61 million to the Netherlands.

According to the ITKIB data, the apparel exports from Turkey during the January to September 2013 period touched US$ 12.95 billion, indicating a rise of 8.5 percent, compared to the same period last year.

During the first nine months this year, the highest exports were from the category of knitted apparel and clothing accessories, which include socks. The exports from the category reached US$ 6.88 billion in the January to September 2013 period.
