IAF World Fashion Convention '14 to be held in Colombia

The 30th World Fashion Convention, organized by the International Apparel Federation (IAF), will be held in Medellin, Colombia, from the September 29 to October 1, 2014.

This event will be held in association with Inexmoda, a comprehensive, market knowledgeable institute supporting the work of the actors of the fashion industry, through a comprehensive portfolio that facilitates their competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

This time, the convention will be held under the theme “Understanding the Challenges of the Fashion Business”, which includes the challenges like leadership, competitiveness, innovation, co-creation, creativity, consumer lifestyles and generations, and major Latin American markets.

The event offers a varied and interesting line-up of speakers. Mr. Mazza of McKinsey will talk about growing business in two-tier Latin American cities. Tom Julian, of the renowned US Doneger Group, will show how the best performing brands are successful in targeting the most coveted customer group, the millennials. Desigual, VF, and Disney will talk about the steps they took to become globally successful. Fernando Pimentel, the executive director of Brazilian apparel association (Abit) will discuss the opportunities for increased Latin American trade.

The World Fashion Convention would be the ideal space to discuss and present the latest trends in fashion business. Global fashion industry leaders will be gathering to discuss and guide the future of the fashion industry. It would provide a platform to talk about the academic institutions and companies in the fashion business.

This event would also help the domestic entrepreneurs from Colombia to display their products in the global fashion map.

Among the approximate 300 delegates attending this convention, about half of them will be manufacturers, brands and designers from Colombia and Latin America. Additionally, executives from associations from over 60 countries are expected to assist the event, as well as companies, which are corporate members of the IAF, like VF, Li & Fung, Lectra, Avalon and Stylesight, would be a part of the event.

The event is held annually and has been hosted by major cities such as Milan, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Washington, Istanbul, San Francisco, Porto and Shanghai among others, with an attendance of more than 200 executives each. Its content focuses on the fashion business, including branding, marketing and management of the supply chain.

The IAF is the international organization that seeks to develop business contacts to promote the exchange of knowledge and dialogue among stakeholders in the value chain of the Fashion System. It currently has members from nearly 60 countries representing more than 200,000 companies. (GK)
